HORNBLOWER AND THE ATROPS (AP)
500 Signed and Numbered Prints
50 Artist Proofs
C. S. Forester's 'Hornblower' novels have delighted and charmed vast numbers
of appreciative readers for decades. Now Robert Taylor has paid tribute to this
prolific and popular writer in the form of a magnificent edition of prints
depicting the scene from Forester's
'Hornblower and the Atropos' when his great literary character assumes his first
command. The Atropos is seen at anchor, on the River Thames at Deptford during
the winter of 1805. She appears in all her splendor, topmasts sent down and
proudly displaying
her eleven starboard gunports. A beautiful ship of war, Atropos inspires
Hornblower's admiration and respect. The moment portrayed is, for many people,
one of the most memorable in the entire "Hornblower" series. It
represents the proudest of his career up to that time and his subsequent
successes as the ship's captain laid the foundations of his later impressive
achievements. Not only has Robert Taylor captured with great authenticity all
the majesty of this and dozens of other splendid vessels in the scene, but he
has recreated all the dock buildings and bustle of Deptford in the early
ninteenth century. Each print is individually inspected, then signed and
numbered by Robert Taylor, making these prints a superb opportunity for the
investor in marine art, 'Hornblower' fan and Taylor enthusiast alike.
